Accessibility statement

We aim to be usable by everyone, including people with disabilities and people on low-end phones or slow networks.

Standards we target

• WCAG 2.2 Level AAA on body text contrast (7:1)
• WCAG 2.2 Level AA everywhere else
• Keyboard-only navigation for every page
• Screen-reader compatibility (tested with VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA)
• Works without JavaScript for reading content, submitting feedback, and switching languages

Built-in features

• Skip-to-content link on every page
• Visible 3px focus ring on every interactive element
• Semantic HTML — proper heading hierarchy, landmarks, lists
• Every image has meaningful alt text (required at the CMS level)
• Every icon has an aria-label or aria-hidden
• All text meets or exceeds AAA contrast against its background
• Respect for prefers-reduced-motion — no animations for users who opt out
• Separate typography scale for Ge'ez script (larger line-height, wider tracking) for readability

Known limitations

• Some illustrations do not yet have descriptive alt text (we are working with a commissioned illustrator to add them).
• Search is client-side and requires JavaScript.
• Only Amharic has full translation coverage; Oromo, Tigrinya, and Somali fall back to English until translations land.

Reporting an accessibility issue

File a bug via GitHub Issues — we treat accessibility bugs as high priority. Include the page URL, your browser, and any assistive technology you were using.
